Obi Affirmed as NDC 2027 Flag Bearer with Kwankwaso as Running Mate

National Democratic Coalition (NDC) has affirmed Peter Obi as its presidential flag bearer for the 2027 election and announced Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate.

The resolution was passed unanimously at the NDC’s Special National Convention on Saturday, with party leaders including the National Chairman present to endorse the ticket.

"I had the honour and privilege, in the company of the National Chairman and other leaders of our party, to affirm His Excellency, Peter Obi, CON, as the NDC Presidential Flag Bearer of our great party," a party official said at the event.

The official, who presented the party flag to Obi alongside the National Chairman, said the affirmation suggested "the confidence, trust, and hope that members of our party and millions of Nigerians have reposed in the NDC."

While accepting the nomination, Obi announced Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor and senator, as his vice-presidential candidate.

The announcement was received with enthusiasm by delegates, who described the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as "a strong demonstration of national unity, inclusiveness, and a shared commitment to national transformation."

The party congratulated both leaders and pledged full support from its leadership, members and stakeholders ahead of the 2027 polls.

"I congratulate both His Excellency Peter Obi and His Excellency Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on this historic milestone and assure them of the full support of the leadership, members, and stakeholders of our party," the statement said.

The NDC also commended delegates and officials for conducting the primaries and convention peacefully.

"Let us remain united, focused, and committed to the ideals upon which our party was founded.

"Together, we shall offer Nigerians a credible alternative and usher in a new era of hope, progress, and national renewal," the party added.
