Bandits operating along the Matazu axis of Katsina State have abducted retired Maj-Gen Rabe Abubakar and his wife on Saturday.
Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information (DDI), was travelling to Katsina for a wedding when armed men intercepted his vehicle, a source said.
His driver escaped with gunshot injuries but the retired general and his wife were taken into the forest.
A video circulating on social media showed the victims’ red Peugeot 504 parked inside Matazu Divisional Police Headquarters.

In the viral video sighted by RoundReports, at least two gunshot holes were on the car’s body.
According to checks, the development was the second known attack involving a retired general in Katsina since the 2025 abduction of Brig-Gen Maharazu Tsiga.
Tsiga, a former Director-General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC), spent 56 days in captivity before his release.
Katsina remains a hotspot for banditry despite repeated security operations to restore normalcy.
