The Presidency has said it will pursue legal action against social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, known online as Verydarkman or VDM, over the alleged circulation of a fabricated audio clip purporting to be President Bola Tinubu.
The clip began circulating after an X user, @Pious_minister, posted a video in which an AI-generated recording of the President’s voice was played.
In the audio, the voice claims that insecurity in Nigeria would persist because voters did not support Tinubu in the 2023 election.
Reacting on Wednesday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said those responsible for spreading the clip would face legal consequences.

"This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu," Onanuga wrote on his official X account.
He described the incident as "a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform," adding that the government views the spread of manipulated content as a serious matter.
The Presidency, however, did not specify which charges might be brought, but said the matter would be handled in line with Nigerian law.
There has been no public response yet from Otse as of press time.
