Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for a more mature and tolerant approach to politics ahead of the 2027 general election, urging Nigerians to prioritise national unity over division.
Speaking after Eid-el-Kabir prayers in Borno State on 27 May 2026, Shettima said the country needed calm leadership and collective effort to navigate current economic and global challenges.
He added that President Bola Tinubu’s administration was working to ease economic pressures facing households.
“Let there be peace in the land. Let us continue to pray for peace not only in Borno State but in every nook and cranny of Nigeria,” the Vice President told worshippers.
Shettima said ongoing global tensions, including the crisis in the Middle East, made it even more important for Nigerians to stand together.

He argued that political differences should not undermine national solidarity as the country looks towards 2027.
The Vice President was joined at the prayers by Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari, members of the National Assembly, and other senior officials.
After the prayers, Kadafur paid a traditional Sallah homage to the Vice President at his Maiduguri residence.
He commended Shettima’s support for Borno State and the federal government.
“On behalf of the government and people of Borno State, we are here to felicitate with Your Excellency on the occasion of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration,” Kadafur said.
He prayed for the Vice President’s health and wisdom, and urged residents of Borno and Nigerians more broadly to keep praying for peace, unity and prosperity.
