South African singer Tyla Seethal was one of the standout winners at the 52nd American Music Awards (AMAs) in Las Vegas, taking home two awards on the night.
The 24-year-old won Best Afrobeats Artist, seeing off competition from Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Wizkid and Rema, as well as Ghanaian-American artist MOLIY in the fan-voted category.
She also won Social Song of the Year for her 2025 hit CHANEL, making her the only African artist to win at this year’s ceremony.
Tyla entered the night as the most nominated African act in the awards’ history with four nods, including Best Female R&B Artist and Best Music Video for CHANEL.

Although she was not at the MGM Grand Garden Arena to collect the prizes, the double win adds to a string of international successes since her 2023 breakthrough with Water.
Released in October 2025, CHANEL has amassed more than 320 million streams on Spotify and topped charts worldwide.
The track’s blend of amapiano, pop, R&B and Afrobeats has also fuelled debate online over how to classify her sound.
Hosted by Queen Latifah, the ceremony on Monday saw BTS named Artist of the Year, while Sabrina Carpenter won Album of the Year for Man’s Best Friend.
