Former Deputy President of the Senate Ovie Omo-Agege has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing recent developments in Delta State and the need to better represent his constituents.
In a letter dated 22 May 2026 to the APC chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North, Omo-Agege said he was stepping down after consultations with political associates and supporters.
A statement from his media adviser, Sunday Areh, said the move would allow him to pursue his political goals outside the party.
"I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria," he said.

Omo-Agege thanked the APC for the chance to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate and asked for his name to be removed from all party records and mailing lists.
He said he remained committed to development and effective representation for Delta Central.
The resignation follows his heavy defeat in the APC senatorial primary for Delta Central.
Incumbent Senator Ede Dafinone won with 116,252 votes to Omo-Agege’s 3,643 under the Option A4 system, according to the party’s National Assembly Primary Committee.
