The All Progressives Congress (APC) has seized on opposition parties' failure to meet the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline for submitting 2027 election candidates as evidence of what it called their chronic unpreparedness and inability to govern.
In a statement dated 12 July 2026 and signed by National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the APC said it successfully uploaded the particulars of all its presidential, vice presidential, Senate and House of Representatives candidates on the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal before the original 11 July deadline, despite fielding a larger number of candidates than any opposition party.
The party stated that INEC granted an extension to 14 July 2026 at the request of opposition parties that had failed to meet the deadline, and argued that this reflected poorly on their internal organisation.

"Political parties that cannot efficiently conclude their own internal nomination processes cannot possibly be trusted by Nigerians to possess the competence, discipline, or readiness to govern our great nation or its subnational governments," the statement read.
The APC also pointed to what it called a glaring irony, adding that the same opposition parties that have repeatedly alleged the ruling party controls INEC's decisions had turned to the same commission for relief when they could not meet its deadline.
"The same APC that would have been the obvious beneficiary if INEC had stood firm on its original deadline kept its distance, having met the deadline and completed its submission," the statement said.
The party called on its leaders, members and supporters to shift focus to the campaign ahead, pledging a vigorous, issues-based drive to secure a renewed mandate for President Bola Tinubu's administration in the 2027 general elections.
