A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has named Sandy Onor as its consensus candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The announcement was made in Abuja on Tuesday by former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, who chaired the faction’s presidential primary collation committee.
"Onor emerged as the candidate after consultations and voice votes conducted among party members across the states," Ortom said.
The faction said it had consulted party members in all 36 states and the FCT before reaching the decision.
At the same event, PDP factional national secretary Samuel Anyanwu presented Onor with a certificate of return and the party flag.

Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the proceedings.
Also, national commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Rhoda Gumus were reportedly present.
The selection follows the screening of Onor as the faction’s sole presidential aspirant earlier this month, alongside 25 governorship aspirants from 17 states.
That screening was held at the PDP Legacy House in Abuja on 15 May.
The PDP remains split between rival factions ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
