The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed the arrest of the developer behind the collapsed two-storey building in Jikwoyi, Abuja, and ordered the immediate revocation of the land title.
Recall that the incident, which occurred last Friday within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), left six people injured but no fatalities.
Authorities further revealed that the victims are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
During an inspection of the site on Tuesday, Wike condemned the developer for proceeding with construction despite lacking approval from the FCT Department of Development Control.
He revealed that repeated “stop-work” notices had been ignored, ultimately leading to the collapse.
“Despite the lack of formal approval, the company proceeded with construction, leading to the eventual structural failure,” Wike said.

The minister confirmed that the land would be reclaimed for public use, with the local community consulted on what project should replace the illegal structure.
He stressed that those responsible would face prosecution under the law.
Wike also stressed the importance of strict compliance with building regulations, insisting that approvals allow authorities to monitor standards and materials used.
He instructed agencies to intensify enforcement, including demolitions of unapproved structures, to prevent future tragedies.
“It is important that we act decisively. Where there is a clear violation, the law must take its course,” he added.
