The Bayelsa State Police Command has disbursed N16,182,679.26 to families of deceased police officers, concluding activities to celebrate National Police Day 2026 in the state.
In a statement dated 2 April, 2026, the Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa, Iyamah Daniel Edebor disclosed that the cheques were presented on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
Addressing beneficiaries, the commissioner urged families to invest the funds prudently to support household welfare.
Edebor added that the disbursement capped a week of community-facing activities that included town hall meetings, environmental sanitation, medical outreach programmes, a walkathon and public sensitisation on electoral violence, road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.

"The Bayelsa State Police Command has concluded activities marking National Police Day 2026 with the disbursement of cheques totalling Sixteen Million, One Hundred and Eighty-Two Thousand, Six Hundred and Seventy-Nine Naira, Twenty-Six Kobo (₦16,182,679.26) to the families of deceased Police officers.
"Presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, the Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, consoled the families and charged them to invest and judiciously utilise the funds for the welfare of their households.
