Bayelsa Extends Deadline for Tax Return Filing

The Bayelsa State Government has extended the deadline for filing tax returns for individuals and corporate organisations to 15 April 2026, covering the 2025 year of assessment.

According to a statement by Daniel Eniekezimene, Executive Chairman of the Bayelsa State Internal Revenue Service, the extension applies to self-employed persons, individual taxpayers and businesses registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and operating within the state.

Eniekezimene reminded taxpayers that failure to file returns, or filing incomplete or inaccurate returns, attracts penalties under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act.

Section 101 of the Act provides for an administrative penalty of N100,000 in the first month of default and N50,000 for each subsequent month the failure continues.

As part of the filing process, individual taxpayers are required to register on the Bayelsa State e-tax self-service portal using their National Identification Number (NIN) and date of birth, ensuring the details correctly match their NIN records.

The statement added that successful registration generates a user profile and login credentials.

Once registered, taxpayers can complete their returns by logging into their profile, selecting the “Tax Returns” option, choosing “File Returns,” entering the required information and submitting the form online.

The revenue service urged taxpayers to take advantage of the extension to ensure full compliance before the new deadline.

For further assistance, taxpayers were advised to visit the Annual Returns Office at Revenue House, Lambert Eradiri Road, Onopa, Yenagoa.
