President Bola Tinubu has sworn in economist Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, describing the appointment as a strong endorsement of his expertise in fiscal policy and tax reform.
The ceremony took place on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where the President praised Oyedele’s track record, particularly his leadership of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.
Tinubu said the new minister’s role in coordinating the committee had been instrumental in shaping policies aimed at simplifying Nigeria’s tax system, widening the revenue base, and improving the business climate.
Speaking after administering the oath of office, the President commended Oyedele’s professionalism and dedication, noting that his appointment reflected confidence in his ability to support the government’s economic agenda.
He also acknowledged the demands of public office, urging the minister’s family to continue supporting him as he takes on the new responsibilities.

Oyedele, an indigene of Ondo State, brings more than two decades of experience in taxation and public policy.
He previously spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
His academic background includes a Higher National Diploma from Yaba College of Technology and a degree in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
He has also completed executive programmes at institutions such as London School of Economics, Yale University, Harvard Kennedy School and the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
In addition to his government role, Oyedele is a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
His appointment comes as Nigeria continues efforts to strengthen fiscal policy and sustain economic stability while pursuing broader growth.
