Four Suspected Bandits Arrested Near Akure Airport — FAAN

Security operatives have arrested four suspected bandits in the vicinity of Akure Airport in Ondo State following a coordinated operation involving aviation, military and local security agencies.

The arrests were confirmed late on Sunday by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), which said the suspects were first sighted behind the airport’s perimeter fence towards the Eleyewo community.

According to FAAN, the sighting triggered an immediate security response, with aviation and local operatives swiftly mobilising to secure the area around the airport.

In a statement, FAAN said the operation brought together its Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel alongside officers from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force, as well as other local security outfits.

"During the operation, some individuals were seen attempting to flee the area. Four suspects were eventually apprehended by the joint security team and have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force Area Command for further interrogation," part of the statement read.

FAAN added that the suspects have since been handed over to the police for further investigation and interrogation.

The airport authority commended what it described as swift and effective collaboration among the agencies involved, saying that the joint effort was critical to the success of the operation.

Personnel from the state-backed Amotekun Corps and community vigilante groups were also involved in the search, FAAN said.

Akure Airport serves as a key aviation hub in Ondo State, and FAAN said the coordinated response was its commitment to maintaining security around airport facilities nationwide.
