Pipeline Security: IYC Urges FG to Back Tantita’s Gains

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has urged the Federal Government to consolidate progress made in securing oil pipelines across the Niger Delta, praising the role of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited in curbing crude oil theft and vandalism.

Speaking at a press briefing in Warri, Delta State, on Friday, the council’s spokesman, Binebai Princewill, commended the surveillance operations led by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, describing them as “tested, trusted, and result-driven.”

The IYC cautioned against calls to decentralise the pipeline surveillance contract, warning that such moves could undermine stability and reverse hard-won gains.

Any individual or group criticising Tompolo and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, despite their enormous sacrifices and contributions, is acting on their own accord,” the council said, stressing that such criticisms do not reflect the collective will of the Niger Delta people.

According to the group, Tantita’s intervention has led to a sharp reduction in oil theft, improved production levels, and restored confidence in the security of oil and gas assets.

It stated that thousands of youths have been employed under the framework, reducing restiveness and promoting peace across communities.

The council further listed additional benefits, including fewer oil spills, the revival of aquatic life, and broader economic empowerment in the region.

It argued that Tantita’s grassroots intelligence network and coordination structure already ensure inclusivity, making further agitation for decentralisation unnecessary.

The IYC passed a vote of confidence in Tantita, urging President Bola Tinubu’s administration to resist “gimmicks and orchestrated campaigns” aimed at destabilising the arrangement.

It called for the surveillance contract to be expanded and institutionalised, warning that any attempt to alter the current framework could trigger avoidable setbacks.

Tompolo remains well-positioned for this critical assignment, and his leadership continues to deliver tangible results,” the council affirmed, urging the government to protect the integrity of the existing system.
