The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has encouraged Corps members to make full use of the Scheme’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to position themselves for self-employment.
Speaking to the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Boro Town, Bayelsa State, Nafiu said the initiative was designed to help young graduates build practical skills and develop viable business ideas during and after the orientation course.
He explained that the NYSC had secured partnerships with institutions including the Bank of Industry, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Wema Bank, Unity Bank, Kudimata and the NNPC Foundation, which would offer loan facilities to support Corps members hoping to start small enterprises.
Nafiu also stressed the importance of cultivating friendships across social and cultural backgrounds, saying such connections would help strengthen national cohesion.
He further encouraged participants to familiarise themselves with the customs of their host communities to aid smoother integration.
Earlier, the NYSC Bayelsa State Coordinator, Obiageli Okpalifo, briefed the DG on the progress of the camp activities, saying that Corps members had been active and cooperative.
Okpalifo commended the Bayelsa State Government and other partners for their continued support and reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for timely completion of ongoing projects within the camp.
