Bayelsa Announces Monthly Sanitation Exercise for 29 November

Bayelsa State will enforce its monthly environmental sanitation exercise on Saturday, 29 November, with movement restricted between 7:00 am and 10:00 am to allow a full neighbourhood clean-up.

Residents, markets, and corporate organisations across Yenagoa and surrounding communities are expected to take part.

High Chief Timothy Diekivie Itiedu, Chairman of the Environmental Sanitation Authority issued the directive in a notice on Thursday.

Itiedu instructed residents to clear drains, cut overgrown grasses, open natural waterways, and ensure all waste, particularly that removed from canals and drainages, is properly disposed of at designated dumpsites rather than left where it could flow back into the system.

He commended communities in the Yenagoa metropolis for their cooperation in previous exercises and also praised leaders of trading units at Swali Market, Kpansia, Opolo, Etegwe, and other markets for mobilising members ahead of Saturday’s operation.

Corporate organisations were urged to join the clean-up as part of wider environmental responsibility initiatives.

The notice warned that activities such as football and bicycle riding will not be permitted during the restriction period, stressing that maintaining a clean and healthy environment is a shared duty.
