President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians in Rwanda that his administration will continue working to achieve national goals, as he met members of the diaspora community in Kigali on 16 May 2026.
Speaking during an engagement with Nigerians living in Rwanda, Tinubu said he remained committed to delivering on the expectations of citizens at home and abroad.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Africa CEO Forum.
Members of the diaspora lamented about consular services, particularly difficulties in obtaining and renewing Nigerian passports.
One speaker stated that there was no passport office at the Nigerian High Commission in Kigali, and that many people faced challenges renewing passports and registering newborns.
The President also heard from representatives of international and Nigerian organisations working in the region.
Dr Olugbemi Adekakan, the Country Representative of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), said he was interested in replicating his work for humanity in Nigeria and requested the President’s support.
Mrs Fatima Attahiru, Programme Manager of the Timbuktoo Africa Initiative at the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Kigali, said her agency was keen to work with the Nigerian government on human capacity development and skills acquisition.
Attahiru stated that UNDP would seek ways to align its programmes with Nigeria’s development priorities.

Michael Masai Ujiri, a former Nigerian-Canadian basketball player and President of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, told the President of his interest in developing Nigeria’s sports infrastructure into a modern enterprise that could attract private investment.
Ujiri said he had developed the Zaria Court in Rwanda, an integrated sports and hospitality complex built to international standards.
Khalil Sulaiman Halilu, Executive Vice Chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), revealed the agency had created diaspora-focused programmes and modules to help Nigerians abroad contribute to national development and self-actualisation.
The delegation commended the President’s participation in the Africa CEO Forum and said they would continue to promote Nigeria’s image positively in Rwanda and beyond.
Also present at the meeting were Kelechi Anyanwu, a student, and other members of the Nigerian community in Kigali.
