Chelsea have appointed Xabi Alonso as the new manager of the men’s team, the club announced on Sunday.
The Spaniard will take up the role on 1 July 2026 after signing a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
"Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Xabi Alonso as Manager of the Men’s Team.
"The Spaniard will begin his role on July 1, 2026, having agreed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
"Welcome to Chelsea, Xabi!," the club said in a statement.

Alonso joins Chelsea following his success with Bayer Leverkusen, where he guided the German side to an unbeaten Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 season.
The appointment comes after Chelsea parted ways with managers Liam Rosenior and Enzo Maresca following a disappointing campaign that saw the club miss out on Champions League qualification.
The 43-year-old is expected to have full managerial authority and will oversee transfer plans ahead of the new season.
Reports suggest strengthening the defence is an early priority, with the club targeting a centre-back to add experience to a young squad.
Chelsea said Alonso’s tactical approach and leadership would be central to restoring cohesion and pushing for a return to the Premier League’s top four.
