Family, colleagues and residents gathered in Ogbomoso on Friday to mourn Joel Adesiyan, a teacher killed during last week’s attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The funeral service was held at Ayegun Baptist Church, where relatives, friends and associates paid their respects.
Photographs from the ceremony showed mourners supporting Adesiyan’s family as burial rites took place.
Adesiyan, assistant headmaster at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, died on 15 May during an incursion by armed men in communities along the Ahoro-Esiele/Yawota axis.
Authorities said the incident also led to the abduction of students and staff from Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, L.A Primary School, Esiele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde said seven teachers were taken during the attack.
Makinde later confirmed that another teacher, Michael Oyedokun, had died while in captivity.
A video circulating online purportedly showing Oyedokun drew widespread condemnation and prompted renewed calls for improved security around schools.
On Thursday, the Oyo State Government and police said reports that the abducted teachers and students had been released were inaccurate, adding that rescue operations remain underway.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid sharing unverified information and said updates will be provided as efforts continue.
