Dan Greaney, the comedy writer best known for his work on 'The Simpsons,' has announced he is running for United States (US) president in 2028.
In an Instagram video posted on Tuesday, the 60-year-old appeared in a robe, grey beard and wig, declaring "Judgment Day is here" as he launched his campaign.
"I’m just a self-proclaimed prophet…" Greaney said, before revealing he had attended law school, graduated and passed the bar.
He then removed the costume and added: "Screw it, I can be a politician. "My platform: America for all. Let’s do this," he said.
Greaney wrote the 2000 Simpsons episode that famously depicted a future Donald Trump presidency.
He is among the first public figures to launch a 2028 bid, more than two years before the election.
On the Republican side, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are often named as potential contenders, while California Governor Gavin Newsom is viewed as a possible Democratic candidate.

A Harvard University and Harvard Law School graduate, Greaney worked as an attorney at Proskauer, Rose, Goetz & Mendelsohn before joining The Simpsons as a writer from season 7 to 11.
The writer who lives in California, is co-founder of online community platform Bailiwik, and his credits also include The Office and Borat.
In the announcement video, Greaney said the US faced a crisis that was "political, historic, and beyond that it is moral."
He criticised both parties, saying Trump, Vance, "the billionaires, careerists and cowards in both parties, have turned their backs on it," referring to the founding principle that "all men are created equal."
On his campaign website he wrote: "The Republican establishment empowered Trump, the Democrats failed to stand up to him or for us, so I’m not leaving it in their hands."
Greaney describes himself as a "progressive Republican," and his platform focuses on "restoring democracy" and "rebuilding America."
