PWA to Challenge Pipeline Surveillance Contract in Court

The Peoples Wellbeing Association (PWA) has declared its intention to file a suit at the High Court in Abuja, seeking to block the renewal of Nigeria’s pipeline surveillance contract.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Head of PWA’s Legal Unit, Comrade Aliyu Sadiq, said the move was a last resort to safeguard peace and stability in the Niger Delta.

He accused certain individuals of attempting to monopolise the contract, warning that exclusionary practices were fuelling tension in the region.

Sadiq argued that dividing the contract among multiple stakeholders would ensure efficiency, transparency, and inclusiveness.

He stressed that local actors in each state were better positioned to protect petroleum infrastructure within their jurisdictions, thereby strengthening national security.

The association plans to seek a court injunction to prevent any renewal until all relevant stakeholders are included.

While reiterating support for President Bola Tinubu, Sadiq praised reforms under the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) and commended its Group Managing Director, Engr Bayo Ojulari, for his leadership.

He concluded by calling for continuity in government, noting that sustained reforms were vital for Nigeria’s economic transformation.

"Tension is rising in the region due to the exclusion of key stakeholders. No single individual should control such a critical national assignment, especially when there are concerns about capacity

"Each state, with its local stakeholders, is better positioned to safeguard critical oil infrastructure within its jurisdiction. Entrusting such national assets to one entity puts the country at risk," he said.
