Nigeria Offers Support to Stabilise Global Oil Supply

Nigeria says it is prepared to play a stabilising role in global energy markets as escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to unsettle oil supply and push prices higher.

The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, said Abuja was willing to support international efforts to maintain energy security, particularly as production and transport disruptions affect key oil-producing states in the Gulf region.

Rising instability across parts of the Middle East has constrained output and logistics in countries including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Iraq, fuelling fears of shortages and contributing to price volatility on global markets.

Speaking through a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, Idris said Nigeria remained ready to contribute where necessary.

Nigeria is ever ready to contribute to energy security around the world. Whatever Nigeria can do to ease tension, it will do. The world needs oil, and Nigeria is there,” the minister said.

Idris also drew attention to President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing foreign engagements, describing them as critical to strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic partnerships.

He said the President’s current visit reinforced Nigeria’s long-standing relationship with the United Kingdom (UK), underpinned by historical, cultural and economic ties.

This visit underscores the historical relationship, the cultural ties, and the economic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. We hope that we will deepen it further in the interest of both countries,” Idris said.

The minister added that economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration were already improving Nigeria’s outlook and international standing.

With the reforms that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instituted, we have seen a significant uplift in the economy,” he said.

On security, Idris maintained that Nigeria’s agencies were intensifying efforts to address ongoing challenges, rejecting suggestions of systemic failure.

He stressed that more work was required but insisted progress had been made, citing improvements in peace and stability in Maiduguri over time.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining reforms, strengthening security and creating a safer environment for citizens, while positioning Nigeria as a dependable partner in global energy and economic affairs.
