The adjournment followed arguments from both sides at Tuesday’s proceedings, where defence counsel, Ukpon Akpan, asked the court to grant bail on constitutional grounds and to allow his client sufficient time to prepare his defence.
Prosecutors opposed the application, maintaining that the charges are serious and that granting bail could compromise ongoing investigations.
El-Rufai was arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on allegations linked to corruption and abuse of office during his tenure as governor.
The former governor was docked alongside Joel Adoga before the Federal High Court.
Security around the court and across parts of the Kaduna capital was visibly tightened ahead of the arraignment, with armed personnel deployed at key access points as supporters and onlookers gathered.
Furthermore, journalists were barred from entering the courtroom during the session.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Commission’s Head of Media and Public Communications, John Okor Odey had said the charges were filed under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026.
Odey revealed the charges they included alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering.
Separately, the ICPC has instituted another case against El-Rufai and Amadu Sule before the Kaduna State High Court in the Kaduna Judicial Division.
That matter, marked KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26, alleges offences ranging from abuse of office and fraud to intent to commit fraud and conferring undue advantage.
According to the Commission, both sets of charges were filed on 18 March 2026 as part of its enforcement drive, and the former governor has been duly served.
While the Federal High Court matter is already before the court, a hearing date for the State High Court case is yet to be announced.
