Army Logistics Reforms Key to Operational Success, Shagaya Tells Officers

Nigeria’s military operations are increasingly dependent on a reliable and resilient logistics system, the Commander of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, Maj Gen Danjuma Shagaya, has said.

Speaking at a conference of senior officers, Shagaya said ongoing reforms within the Army’s supply chain were central to sustaining operational effectiveness across formations and theatres.

The gathering brought together commanders to review challenges and develop strategies to strengthen logistics support.

Shagaya said the evolving security landscape marked by complex threats and rapid technological change, had placed growing pressure on military logistics, making efficiency and adaptability indispensable.

Operational success is sustained not only by combat power but by the reliability, responsiveness and resilience of the logistics system that supports the force,” he told officers, adding that the corps remained critical to maintaining operational momentum nationwide.

He said the conference offered a strategic platform to assess commitments, interrogate constraints and identify innovative approaches to logistics delivery, in line with the transformation agenda of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu.

According to Shagaya, deliberations focused on improving fleet management, strengthening supply chains, enhancing administrative efficiency and reinforcing a culture of operational readiness within the corps.

The vision of a professional and combat-ready force must be underpinned by a logistics system that is equally efficient, responsive and resilient,” he said.

Earlier, Maj Gen Adebayo Adegbite, Commander of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, said the forum was designed to deepen professional engagement among senior officers and improve the corps’ capacity to support military operations.

Adegbite disclosed the conference was conceived as a space for reflection and problem-solving aimed at boosting service delivery and operational effectiveness across the Army’s logistics structure.

He added that the programme encouraged practical dialogue and knowledge sharing, with the goal of translating discussions into improved performance across units.

The event also featured the commissioning of new facilities, reinforcing efforts to strengthen training infrastructure and professional development within the corps.
