Adeleke Pledges Continued Support for Corps Members in Osun

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the safety, welfare and effective deployment of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state.

Adeleke gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving the Osun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Mr Ekeng Kubiangha, and his delegation at the Government House in Osogbo.

He stated that the state government had carefully taken note the requests presented by the NYSC leadership and would address them progressively in line with available resources.

The governor stressed the importance of maintaining a strong and productive working relationship between the state and the Scheme.

He praised the contributions of corps members across education, health and other critical sectors, describing the NYSC as a key vehicle for national unity, youth development and grassroots service delivery.

Adeleke also commended the collaboration between the Scheme and the Osun State Ministry of Youth Affairs, saying it had strengthened youth-focused initiatives.

With the governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026, he maintained the role of corps members in supporting Nigeria’s electoral process.

He assured them of adequate security, adding that the state would continue to work closely with security agencies to ensure a safe operating environment.

Kubiangha, on his part,  thanked the governor for what he described as a youth-friendly approach and sustained support for the Scheme.

He said Osun had become “a home away from home” for corps members, citing recent interventions at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, including improved feeding arrangements and the provision of mattresses and double bunk beds.

The coordinator briefed the governor on his ongoing familiarisation tour of local government areas to assess corps members’ welfare and security, adding that 14 councils had already been visited.

He also outlined key operational challenges, including the need for a permanent NYSC secretariat, replacement of an ageing official vehicle, repairs to facilities damaged by windstorms and improved logistics for the payment of state allowances.

Kubiangha further appealed for a review of allowances for corps teachers in public schools, while acknowledging the governor’s approval of enhanced stipends for corps medical personnel.

He also mentioned the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the NYSC and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ahead of the forthcoming election.

The visit concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to the governor and was attended by the deputy governor, members of the state executive council, senior officials, NYSC management staff and corps members.
