Social media commentator VeryDarkman has admitted that he triggered the police action that led to the arrest of activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who is currently being held in Benin, Edo State.
In a Facebook broadcast on Friday, VeryDarkMan confirmed that Gwamnishu was taken into custody on Thursday night.
He said he contacted the police after receiving reports of an incident involving the activist in Auchi, describing the information he gathered as troubling.
According to him, he had advised those aware of the matter to avoid posting anything online, but a video later emerged.
He said the individual who shared the clip claimed he did so to clear his name after being linked to the case.
VeryDarkman criticised Gwamnishu’s own reaction video, accusing him of attempting to “gaslight” viewers by presenting a narrative that contradicted details already known to people close to the incident.
He alleged that although the police had instructed those present not to record, a short clip was still captured showing Gwamnishu returning money tied to the case.
VeryDarkman further disclosed that the activist’s truck remained at a police station in Edo State.
Dismissing claims that he acted out of rivalry, the Commentator said he intervened solely to uphold “the truth.”
He maintained that he hoped that once released, Gwamnishu would give a full public account of what happened, warning that he might be compelled to disclose additional information if that does not occur.
“So, Harrison Gwamnishu is in police custody in Benin, Edo State. He was arrested yesterday night. In all honesty, I initiated the call that led to his arrest.
“I was really disappointed in everything, but I will wait for him to come out, and this time, I want him to use his mouth to say the truth about what happened in Auchi.”
He added that the account given by Gwamnishu in his video was “emotional manipulation” and “an attempt to counter the narrative despite knowing the facts.”
