A London court has sentenced ten members of a violent phone robbery syndicate, including four Nigerians, to a total of 55 years’ imprisonment for a spate of raids on mobile phone stores across the capital.
Kingston Crown Court heard that the gang, made up of David Akintola, Ayomide Olaribiro, Olabiyi Obasa, David Okewole (all Nigerians), and six others, carried out 13 robberies between September and November 2024, targeting EE shops and stealing smartphones and electronic devices worth around £240,000.
Police said the offenders used threats of violence to force staff to unlock secure stock rooms.
It was said that investigators linked the group to the crimes through DNA evidence, phone records, and vehicle tracking.
Four members were caught during an attempted robbery at an EE store in Kilburn on 19 November 2024, with follow-up searches recovering stolen goods and further incriminating evidence.
Eight of the suspects had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob on 30 January.
Sentences handed down on Friday, 7 November, included:
James Adodo — 10 years
David Akintola — 6 years, 6 months
Michael Babo — 6 years, 10 months
Robert Hills — 5 years, 3 months
Ayomide Olaribiro — 4 years, 6 months
Nelson Joel — 3 years, 3 months
Olabiyi Obasa — 3 years, 6 months
David Okewole — 7 years, 6 months
Two others, who pleaded guilty to attempted robbery, received:
Laville Bloise — 2 years, suspended for two years
Mushtakim Miah — 8 years, 6 months
The Metropolitan Police said the sentencing indicates the conclusion of a months-long investigation into the organised crime spree, which spread fear among staff at mobile phone stores across London.
