The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) said it has recovered two stolen vehicles traced to the Netherlands during its ongoing efforts against transnational organised crime.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Department, operatives of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, working in partnership with their counterparts at INTERPOL The Hague, successfully tracked down and recovered the vehicles, a 2020 Toyota C-HR and a 2019 Toyota RAV4 from separate locations in Lagos and Akwa Ibom States.
Investigations showed that the vehicles had been stolen from Amsterdam and Midden-Nederland before being smuggled through the Port of Antwerp in Belgium and shipped into Lagos late last year.
Following a court process, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted a final forfeiture order in favour of the Government of the Netherlands through the vehicles' insurance company, authorising their repatriation.
The INTERPOL NCB Abuja team later handed over the vehicles to representatives of the insurance company and officials of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nigeria.
Reacting to the development, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun commended the professionalism of the INTERPOL operatives and their close coordination with international partners.
Egbetokun said the operation underscored Nigeria’s commitment to global policing cooperation and its resolve to dismantle criminal networks operating across borders.
