May Yul-Edochie Sues Former Lawyer, Others 1.5bn for Cyberbullying

May Yul-Edochie, estranged wife of actor Yul Edochie, has taken her former lawyer, Linc Edochie's ex-girlfriend and other unnamed social media users to court over an alleged years-long campaign of online harassment, defamation and cyberbullying.

The suit, filed at the Lagos State High Court, names lawyer Emeka Ugwuonye, Yinka Omolola Theisen and other unidentified individuals as defendants.

May is seeking N1 billion in damages from Ugwuonye and N500 million from Theisen, bringing the total claim to N1.5 billion.

In a 126-paragraph affidavit filed in support of the suit, May alleged she had been subjected to sustained online attacks over several years involving false accusations, manipulated photographs, insulting caricatures, AI-generated images, death wishes and other materials designed to damage her reputation.

She alleged that despite serving legal notices on some defendants in 2025 demanding the removal of the offending publications, the attacks continued and new social media pages were created to sustain them.

May also accused Ugwuonye, whom she identified as her former lawyer, of disclosing confidential information she had shared with him during legal representation and publishing materials she described as defamatory and misleading.

She has asked the court to order the removal of the social media accounts and posts used to target her, and to compel social media platforms to release user information to assist investigations into the anonymous operators behind the alleged campaign.

Justice Abdul-Raheem Tejumade Muyideen directed that court processes be served across all known contact channels for the defendants.

The matter was adjourned for a service report.
