Game of Thrones Actor Michael Campbell Dies

Michael Patrick Campbell, best known for his role in Game of Thrones, has died at the age of 35 after living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

His wife, Naomi, confirmed that he passed away on 7 April at a hospice in Northern Ireland.

In a heartfelt tribute shared online, she described him as a man who “lived a life as full as any human can live,” remembered for his “joy, abundance of spirit” and “infectious laughter.”

Campbell, who also performed under the name Michael Patrick, appeared in the sixth season of Game of Thrones as a wilding rioter.

While television brought him international recognition, his most celebrated work was on stage across Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom (UK).

In 2025, he received a theatre honour for his groundbreaking performance in a reimagined production of Richard III, staged in a wheelchair.

The adaptation, co-created with writer Oisín Kearney, explored Shakespeare’s tragedy through the lens of illness and physical decline.

The production toured popular venues including the Royal Opera House in London and the Lyric Theatre in Belfast, earning Campbell a standing ovation and the Judges’ Award at a leading UK theatre ceremony.

His performances were often praised for their emotional depth and physical intensity, qualities that became even more striking after his diagnosis.

Campbell is survived by his wife, Naomi, who thanked those who supported him during his illness.

MND is a progressive condition that damages the motor neurons controlling movement.

Early symptoms can include muscle weakness, cramps, twitching, or slurred speech.

As the disease advances, mobility and everyday tasks become increasingly difficult, and in later stages, individuals may require assistance with movement, communication, and breathing.

There is currently no cure, though treatments can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
