The Borno State Police Command on Sunday buried four police officers killed while repelling a terrorist assault on Nganzai Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Those laid to rest were two inspectors and two constables, Samuel Ezekiel of Nganzai Division; Sanusi Mohammed of 58 Police Mobile Force, Lafiya; Bitrus Luka of the Crack Squad, Borno State; and Shaibu Bukar of the Crack Squad, Borno State.
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, Nahum Daso, said the officers were interred on 5 April 2026 at the Kawar Maila Burial Ground and the Maximum Prison Burial Ground in Maiduguri, in line with religious rites.
The burial was attended by the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), Jawi A Mohammed, and members of the command’s management team.
Funeral prayers were led by officers of the Command Chaplaincies, Imam CSP Bukar Gajibo and Chaplain CSP Theophilus Mutum.
Daso said the officers were killed during coordinated attacks on Nganzai and Damasak on Saturday by suspected members of Boko Haram and its offshoot, the Islamic State West Africa Province.

According to the police, armed attackers struck the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters at about 1:00 am on 4 April, deploying rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons in an attempt to overrun the town.
Police officers, alongside Mobile Force operatives and the Crack Squad on special duty, engaged the assailants and repelled the attack.
A section of the station was damaged, and an unserviceable armoured personnel carrier was partially burnt, police added.
In a related incident around 2:40 am the same day, attackers targeted the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp at Mallam Fatori in Damasak, attacking a hunters’ duty post at the camp entrance.
It was said that one hunter, Atom Abua, aged 40, was killed, while about 20 thatched houses and other property were destroyed.
“The Borno State Police Command has successfully repelled the coordinated attacks, restored normalcy and reinforced security deployments in the affected areas,” the statement said.
