'Federal Government Targeting El-Rufai' – ADC

The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State has accused the Federal Government of mounting a politically driven campaign against former governor Nasir El-Rufai and other opposition figures.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kaduna on Monday, party officials alleged a pattern of harassment and intimidation aimed at weakening opposition voices, warning that such actions could damage democratic norms and public confidence in governance.

A senior party figure, Prof Sani Bello, who read the statement on behalf of the ADC, said recent developments point to what he described as a sustained abuse of state institutions, alongside disregard for due process.

The party maintained that steps taken against El-Rufai, now a prominent opposition figure, were designed to diminish his political standing and influence nationally.

It further alleged the politicisation of federal agencies, naming the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to the ADC, these bodies have continued to pursue cases involving El-Rufai and his associates despite what it claimed was an absence of credible evidence.

The party urged civil society organisations and the international community to closely track political developments in Kaduna State and across the country.

It argued that unchecked pressure on opposition figures could weaken Nigeria’s democratic foundations.
