Army Refutes Allegations by Dismissed Soja Boi

The Nigerian Army has refuted allegations made by dismissed soldier, Ex-Lance Corporal Rotimi Olamilekan, popularly known as “Soja Boi,” who claimed in a recent interview that personnel are inadequately paid and forced to purchase their own uniforms and protective equipment.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, clarified that Olamilekan was dismissed for repeated acts of indiscipline, including breaches of the Armed Forces Social Media Policy, and not for voicing political opinions.

The Army clarified that its remuneration system is transparent and governed by the Manual of Financial Administration for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

It added that personnel receive consolidated salaries, uniform allowances, and additional entitlements such as Ration Cash Allowance, Habit Allowance, and operational allowances for deployments.

Addressing claims about uniforms and protective gear, the Army stressed that all kits, arms, and equipment are provided through its logistics system, with ordnance units ensuring proper distribution.

It described suggestions that soldiers operate without protective gear as “reckless” and damaging to troop morale.

The statement urged the public to disregard the allegations, warning that such misinformation undermines national security efforts.

Army restated its commitment to discipline, accountability, and the welfare of its personnel, while calling on media outlets to verify information from credible sources before publication.
