The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its zoning formula for national elective offices, urging unity as the party steps up preparations for its national convention later this month.
Meeting in Abuja on Monday night, the party’s highest decision-making body between conventions reviewed its internal processes and expressed confidence in its capacity to reposition itself as a viable alternative for national leadership.
In a communiqué issued after the 107th NEC meeting, the committee ratified reports from the recently concluded ward, local government, state and zonal congresses nationwide, describing the exercises as largely peaceful, transparent and credible.
The statement was signed by the chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and the secretary, Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu.
NEC also reviewed progress on the party’s electronic membership registration, commending the pace of enrolment and restating its commitment to building a comprehensive, technology-driven database.
Furthermore, members across the federation were encouraged to take part in the exercise.
A central outcome of the meeting was the endorsement of the party’s zoning arrangement for national elective positions.

NEC said the framework, anchored on equity, fairness, inclusiveness and national balance, would guide the national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, 2026.
The committee noted that the sale of nomination forms had begun and advised aspirants to comply strictly with approved guidelines and timelines.
With its readiness for the convention, themed “A Convention of Inclusiveness, Unity and Renewal,” NEC directed all relevant organs to ensure close coordination for what it described as a credible and transparent process, while stressing party discipline and the supremacy of collective interest.
In his opening remarks, Mohammed said the meeting came at a defining moment following the successful conduct of congresses nationwide, calling on members to remain magnanimous and united.
“There is no victor and no vanquished. What we have is a shared responsibility to rebuild and reposition our party,” he said.
He praised the National Convention Planning Committee chaired by former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu for its organisation and coordination.
Also addressing the meeting, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister Nyesom Wike urged genuine reconciliation and loyalty within the party, cautioning against opportunistic politics and stressing the importance of grassroots connection over financial advantage.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mao Ohuabunwa, described the period as critical to the party’s future, calling for wisdom, restraint and compromise.
He appealed to members to approach zoning decisions with an open mind, guided by equity and the overriding interest of unity.
In its closing remarks, NEC said it was confident in the party’s renewed cohesion and readiness to offer Nigerians what it described as purposeful leadership and national direction.
