An official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ogun State has been taken into police custody following the death of a female corps member in Abeokuta.
Police confirmed that Abass Olalekan, the Local Government Inspector (LGI) overseeing Abeokuta South, is being held as investigations continue into the death of Victoria Ariyo, who reportedly died on Tuesday from complications linked to a terminated pregnancy.
Ariyo was serving under the Abeokuta South Local Government Area (LGA) when she died.
Her remains were buried at Kobape Cemetery along the Kobape–Sagamu Road in Abeokuta.
The incident comes barely a month after another female corps member, Adeleye Mary, died under what police described as unresolved circumstances.
Mary, who was also serving in Abeokuta South, was posted to Ogun State Television (OGTV) as her place of primary assignment.

A source familiar with the matter said both women were close friends and that Mary was found lifeless in her residence near her workplace, with the cause of death yet to be determined.
In Ariyo’s case, sources alleged that her death followed complications arising from an abortion procedure.
Police further confirmed that Olalekan, the NYSC LGI for the area, was arrested in connection with the incident.
A police source told reporters that: “He is currently in our custody at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.”
Police further clarified that there is no established link between Ariyo’s death and that of Mary.
The state police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed Ariyo’s death but declined to comment on the arrest or alleged involvement of the NYSC official.
“I can confirm that the case involving the demise of Victoria Ariyo is under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department,” he said..
