Miss Nigeria Apologises to Omotola over Viral Red Carpet Clip

The Miss Nigeria Organisation has issued a public clarification following a viral video involving Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and a young presenter at the 46th Miss Nigeria Patrons & Board Dinner.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the organisation said the individual seen questioning the actress during the red carpet session was not an accredited media representative and had no formal connection to the invitation-only event.

The organisers apologised to Omotola for what they described as an uncomfortable experience, describing her as a long-standing friend of the Miss Nigeria platform and a respected figure who has supported young creatives over several decades.

They stressed that access to the Patrons & Board Dinner was tightly controlled, with media coverage restricted to officially designated channels, adding that the presence of unauthorised individuals can sometimes result in unexpected and inappropriate interactions.

Addressing the viral footage, the organisation said the clip circulating online did not fully capture what transpired.

According to the statement, several people repeatedly encroached on the actress’s personal space, leaving her feeling unsafe.

It added that the widely shared video had been edited and failed to reflect the broader context of the encounter.

The organisation also condemned the practice of approaching invited guests without clearance, describing such conduct as unacceptable at formal events.

The video shows Omotola initially declining to engage with the presenter, who opened the interaction by asking her to introduce herself on camera.

Visibly surprised, the actress questioned the approach and attempted to walk away, although a later clip showed her eventually granting an interview while seated.

The Miss Nigeria Organisation urged media practitioners and members of the public to respect event protocols and the privacy of invited guests.

It also encouraged fans to support Omotola by watching her latest film, Mother’s Love, noting that proceeds from its cinema run will benefit Slum2School Africa.

Concluding its statement, the organisation thanked guests for contributing to what it described as a successful 2026 Patrons Ball.

Part of the statement read:

"First and foremost, we wish to publicly extend our sincerest apologies to Omotola for the discomfort she experienced.

"She is a deeply valued member of the Miss Nigeria community, a close friend of the organisation, and a woman who has spent decades paving the way for young creatives in this country. She deserves the utmost respect and care.

"There were multiple individuals involved who repeatedly invaded Omotola’s personal space, making her feel deeply uncomfortable and unsafe. The clip that has been shared was edited and does not reflect the full extent of what occurred."
