Popular Nigerian satirical skit maker Kevin Arua, widely known online as Governor Amuneke, has spoken candidly about the personal risks and pressure involved in using humour and satire to critique governance and social issues in Nigeria.
Appearing on Rubbin Minds on Channels Television, Arua said he embarked on the path fully aware of the potential consequences, describing his decision as one rooted in personal conviction rather than impulse.
He told the programme that fear does not influence his creative choices, saying that he had long accepted whatever outcomes might follow his work.
According to him, messages warning him to tone down criticism or predicting political continuity have become commonplace, but they have not altered his resolve.
Arua acknowledged that challenging authority through satire can attract backlash, including online intimidation, but said such attempts do little to deter him.
He argued that trying to silence him misses the point of his work and ultimately achieves little.

The entertainer also criticised public office holders, suggesting that many appear detached from the everyday realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.
As part of what he describes as activism-through-entertainment, Arua recently launched a satirical campaign drawing attention to the activities of local governments, revealing governance gaps while recognising genuine efforts where they exist.
Despite his outspoken public image, Arua said activism was not something he actively sought.
He described activists as people driven by inner conviction rather than choice, adding that he would prefer to focus purely on creative expression behind the camera if circumstances allowed.
However, he maintained that remaining silent would weigh more heavily on his conscience than confronting societal issues.
He also offered a sober assessment of advocacy in Nigeria, saying those who challenge the system often find themselves isolated if matters escalate.
In spite of this, Arua said he has already contemplated all possible outcomes and remains undeterred, insisting that his voice and convictions are not easily suppressed.
