BREAKING: El-Rufai Temporarily Freed from ICPC Custody

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been granted temporary release from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

His son, Bashir El-Rufai, confirmed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, describing his father’s detention as “unlawful and illegal” and thanking supporters for standing by the family.

El-Rufai had been held since 18 February over allegations linked to financial misconduct and related offences.

The ICPC has not yet issued an official statement on the conditions of his release.

The development comes on a day of personal tragedy for the family, as the former governor’s mother, Umma El-Rufai, passed away earlier today in Cairo, Egypt.
