The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its counterterrorism and anti-banditry campaign with a string of precision airstrikes that eliminated fighters of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State and destroyed criminal hideouts in Kwara and Katsina States.
In a statement on Monday, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF, said the operations signaled a decisive phase in joint missions under Operation HADIN KAI and Operation FANSAN YAMMA, both aimed at dismantling terrorist and criminal networks across northern Nigeria.
According to him, air interdiction missions in Borno State delivered “devastating precision strikes” against ISWAP strongholds in the Northern Tumbuns, southeast of Shuwaram and Mallam Fatori, along the Lake Chad Basin.
The operations were guided by real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) data, he added.
“The strikes destroyed insurgent hideouts, logistics hubs, and weapons storage facilities, eliminating several terrorists and crippling their mobility capabilities,” Ejodame said. “Post-strike assessments confirmed multiple neutralisations and a significant degradation of ISWAP’s operational networks in the area.”
In simultaneous operations, NAF aircraft conducted precision air interdictions over Garin Dandi and Chigogo in Kwara State, targeting bandit camps based on credible intelligence.
The attacks, he revealed, inflicted heavy casualties and caused widespread panic among the criminals.
Under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, air assets also struck Zango Hill in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, the hideout of a notorious terrorist kingpin and his fighters.
Multiple attack runs destroyed key logistics hubs and neutralised several terrorists, suggesting one of the most decisive aerial strikes in the region.
Further demonstrating its sustained reach, the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (Sector 1) conducted an armed reconnaissance mission across the northwestern corridor, covering parts of Zamfara, Kebbi, and Kaduna States, including Kakihum, Dankolo, Kotonkoro, and Kuyello, known routes and enclaves for armed groups along the Birnin Gwari–Funtua axis.
During the mission, coordination with Forward Operating Bases at Dankolo and Kotonkoro led to the sighting of armed men on motorcycles near Wam Hill.
It was said that the aircrew swiftly engaged the targets, neutralising them before they could disperse.
Ejodame further disclosed the success of these operations points out the Nigerian Air Force’s renewed tempo under the directives of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.
“Each mission reaffirms the Air Force’s resolve to project smarter, intelligence-driven airpower, delivering decisive strikes against insurgents and criminals while safeguarding lives and property across the country,” he said.
