Yamal Becomes Youngest Player Ever to Win Both World Cup, European Championship

Spain winger Lamine Yamal has become the first player under 20 to win both the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup.

The Barcelona star achieved the historic feat after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.

Yamal, who inspired Spain to Euro 2024 glory as a 17-year-old, is now the youngest player in history to complete the international double.

The 19-year-old was pivotal throughout Spain's World Cup campaign, contributing goals and assists as well as creating chances, with a string of influential performances helping Luis de la Fuente's side secure the nation's second World Cup title, 16 years on from their maiden triumph in South Africa.

His latest success comes just two years after a record-breaking European Championship campaign, during which he became the youngest player in the tournament's history to appear, score and register an assist.

He was also named Young Player of the Tournament after helping Spain beat England 2-1 in the Euro 2024 final.

Yamal now joins the select group of footballers to have won both the European Championship and the World Cup, but stands alone as the only player to have achieved the feat before the age of 20.
