Portable to 'Resurrect' Music Career of Terry G with Boxing Match

Controversial street-pop artist Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has challenged veteran singer Terry G to a celebrity boxing match.

He made the announcement during a recent appearance on Channels Television's Rubbin' Minds.

Explaining his reasoning, Portable said stepping into the ring with Terry G would help revive the older artist's career and public profile.

Asked by the interviewer which celebrity he'd like to fight, Portable responded without hesitation: "Me, I want to fight Terry G."

When the interviewer then asked whether he'd rather face content creator VDM instead, Portable held firm to his original pick.

"Is that Terry G that I want to fight? I won blow am. I want to resurrect his career. If Terry G fight meet one on one in boxing, I swear to God, he will rise again. People will remember him again," Portable said.

His call-out taps into a growing trend of celebrity boxing in Nigeria, where online feuds and social media rivalries are increasingly settled inside the ring for public entertainment.

Over the past few years, these exhibition bouts have grown into notable commercial events, drawing large crowds, sponsorships and extensive media coverage.

Portable has often claimed credit for driving the trend, pointing to what he describes as the financial value he brings to the sport.

"I have tried enough for Nigeria. I used my own career to build Nigerian boxing. I make B50 million to N100 million in a day. If na you born me, you go dey happy," he said.

This isn't Portable's first high-profile boxing showdown as his run in celebrity boxing began with a widely publicised feud with Nollywood actor and internet personality Charles Okocha, triggered by a business dispute over an ambassadorship deal.

The pair settled their differences in the ring in December 2023, with Portable claiming a points victory after a closely contested fight.

His momentum in the sport hit a setback in May 2026, however, at the Chaos in the Ring 4 event held at the Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Despite entering the bout confidently and promising another win, Portable was beaten by social media comedian and content creator Carter Efe.

All three judges scored the fight unanimously in Carter Efe's favour, handing Portable his first defeat in the sport.

Undeterred, Portable has remained active in the celebrity boxing scene, with a rematch against Charles Okocha reportedly in the works.

Before making headlines for his physical showdowns, Portable built his name in the Nigerian music industry.

Originally from Ogun State, he rose to prominence in late 2021 with his viral street anthem "ZaZoo Zehh," featuring rapper Olamide and dancer Poco Lee.

Known for his raw, high-energy style and street lingo, Portable has since released a string of singles and collaborations that continue to resonate with fans nationwide.

Despite frequent controversies, run-ins with law enforcement and public disputes with fellow entertainers, he has retained a loyal fanbase and a consistent presence in pop culture conversations.
