Viral 'Operational Details' on Oriire Kidnapping False - Oyo Police

The Oyo State Police Command has warned the public against a viral publication claiming to contain detailed operational information on the recent abduction in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area (LGA).

In a statement on Friday, 5 June 2026, the command said the report, which alleged identities of suspects, intercepted communications and financial transactions, was misleading and did not originate from the police or any security agency involved in the investigation.

"The said publication is speculative and not an official security report. Operational details, identities of suspects, investigative leads and financial intelligence are strictly protected to safeguard ongoing efforts and prevent compromise of field operations," the statement read.

Police stressed that the investigation remains active and intelligence-driven.

They cautioned bloggers, online publishers and social media users against sharing unverified or operationally sensitive information that could cause panic or hinder efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.

The command warned it would take legal action against anyone found deliberately circulating false information or obstructing the probe.

Residents were urged to rely only on official police channels for updates on the case.

The abduction of teachers and pupils in Ahoro-Esiele has kept the state on edge for over 20 days.
