Delta Police Seize 13,000 Tramadol Sachets, Arrest Suspects

Delta State Police Command says it has made another large-scale seizure in its campaign against illicit drug trafficking, with three suspects arrested and large quantities of hard drugs recovered in separate intelligence-led operations on 3 June 2026.

According to a statement from the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, officers of the Special Enquiry Unit intercepted a Mercedes truck at the First Niger Bridge Head inward Asaba during a routine stop-and-search.

The vehicle, registered KRV 837 ZN, was being driven by 47-year-old Obinna Nwosu from Oba in Idemili South, Anambra State.

Nwosu told officers he was transporting plumbing materials, but a detailed search revealed a concealed consignment of drugs.

Police recovered 13,000 sachets of 100mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of 225mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of Swinol, 300 sachets of Rohypnol, 60 sachets of Codeine Phosphate tablets, and 100 tablets of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly known as "Molly."

The suspect, he said, is in custody while investigators work to identify others linked to the haul.

Hours later, operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad acted on credible intelligence and raided a suspected distribution point in Alegbo Community, Owa-Alero, Ika North East Local Government Area (LGA).

During the raid, two men identified as Henry Edward, and Okwudili Kingsley were arrested at the scene.

Officers recovered five gallons of a fermented cannabis mixture known locally as "Monkey Tail," along with substantial quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs.

Reacting, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers involved for what he described as diligence and professionalism.

Oyeniyi said the command would maintain aggressive operations against drug trafficking and other organised crime, warning that illicit drugs continue to fuel cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent offences across the state.

He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to help police prevent and detect crime.

All three suspects and the recovered exhibits remain in police custody as investigations continue, Edafe said.
