Police Probe Gunmen Attack on Immigration Passport Office in Oyo

Oyo State Police have launched a full investigation into an attack on the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Passport Office in Ogbomoso after armed men raided the facility late Tuesday and made off with a service rifle.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 8:45 pm on 2 June 2026, when five hoodlums scaled the rear perimeter fence from adjoining bushland.

The officer in charge raised the alarm and the Command Monitoring Unit plus surveillance teams were deployed to the scene.

Police said the assailants attacked two Immigration officers on night duty with sticks and other weapons, then escaped with a G3 rifle, ammunition, a mobile phone, a generating set and a motorcycle battery.

Both officers received treatment and are now in stable condition, police said.

The rear of the facility borders a large expanse of bush, which the attackers used to gain entry and flee.

Tactical teams have since been combing the area and likely escape routes to recover the stolen firearm and arrest those responsible.

Police added that intelligence assets and informants have been activated.

It stressed that the NIS is working with police and other security agencies through a joint task team set up by CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga and the state comptroller of Immigration.

Residents have been urged to stay alert and report suspicious activity.

Police said information can be sent confidentially via the Oyo State Call Response Centre on 615, or the police control room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.

"The Command remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives and property and preventing criminal elements from gaining a foothold within the State," the police said.
