Meet Nigeria's Youngest Chartered Accountant

Meet Nigeria's Youngest Chartered Accountant

A 16-year-old Nigerian girl has become the youngest person in the country's history to qualify as a chartered accountant, surpassing a record that had stood for just four years and drawing congratulations from the Federal Government.

Osasere Okundaye earned the distinction after passing the professional examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), a qualification widely regarded as one of the most demanding professional certifications in the country, typically pursued by graduates and seasoned professionals after years of study.

Her achievement breaks the record set in 2022 by Jonathan Adewale, who qualified at the age of 17.

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, was among the first to publicly celebrate the milestone, describing it in a statement on Monday as a powerful demonstration of hard work, discipline, resilience and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

"Osasere has distinguished herself as a shining example of the limitless potential of Nigerian youth. Her accomplishment reminds us that with determination, dedication, and the right support, young Nigerians can break barriers, set new records, and inspire a generation to dream bigger and strive for excellence," the minister said.

Olawande also extended congratulations to Okundaye's parents, teachers, mentors and everyone who supported her journey, acknowledging that behind every exceptional achievement lies a network of sacrifice and encouragement.

He reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Youth Development (FMYD)'s commitment to creating programmes and policies that help young Nigerians unlock their potential.

"I also congratulate her parents, family, teachers, mentors, and everyone who has supported and guided her journey. Their encouragement, sacrifices, and belief in her abilities have undoubtedly contributed to this exceptional success.

"Osasere's achievement reinforces our confidence that the future of Nigeria is bright in the hands of focused, determined, and talented young citizens," he said.
