NLNG Pledges Deeper Local Content Push as Train 7 Approaches Finish Line

Nigeria LNG's new Managing Director (MD) has pledged to strengthen collaboration with the country's content regulator, as the company's landmark Train 7 expansion project nudges towards completion.

Engr Adeleye Falade made the commitment during a courtesy visit to Engr Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), at the Board's Lagos liaison office on Wednesday.

Falade confirmed that construction on Train 7 had reached 90 per cent, with pre-commissioning activities already under way.

The facility is expected to be commissioned in 2027 and will increase NLNG's overall production capacity by 35 per cent, he said.

He told Ogbe that the project had so far created direct employment for 16,000 workers on site, describing the development as a positive contribution to the country's socio-economic stability.

On Nigerian Content, Falade said NLNG's focus would extend to vendor development, skills enhancement, technology transfer and local procurement, framing these as deliberate and measurable commitments rather than obligations to be met on paper.

"NLNG values its relationship with NCDMB and remains fully committed to the shared goal of strengthening Nigerian Content in the oil and gas industry

"As a major player in Nigeria’s gas sector, we recognise our responsibility to support indigenous capacity, grow local supply chains, and ensure that our activities continue to deliver meaningful value to the Nigerian economy," he said.

Ogbe congratulated Falade on his appointment and assured him of the Board's support.

He recalled that NCDMB and NLNG signed a pioneering Service Level Agreement in June 2017, governing Nigerian Content project approval timelines, a framework that later became an industry-wide template.

The Executive Secretary also pressed Falade to increase NLNG's support for the Brass Shipyard project, a drydock facility being developed as part of the Train 7 capacity development initiative.

Ogbe described it as critical infrastructure that would benefit both NLNG and the wider oil and gas industry, expressing hope that it could be delivered within the current management's tenure.
