The NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) has completed the River Niger Crossing section of the 130-kilometre Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Gas Pipeline.
The announcement was made in Abuja through the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited, Andy Odeh on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
NGIC, a subsidiary of NNPC Limited, said the completed crossing enables full operation of the OB3 Pipeline, which has a design capacity of 2 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day.
It added that the River Niger section, constructed about two kilometres beneath the riverbed using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technology was executed the project with contractor PCE Nig Limited.
Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Limited, Engr Bashir Bayo Ojulari, said the completion is “a defining milestone for Nigeria’s gas infrastructure.”
“By successfully traversing one of the most technically challenging sections of the project, we have unlocked a critical link that will enhance gas supply reliability, deepen domestic utilisation, and support power generation and industrial growth across the country,” Ojulari said.
He added that the project builds on NNPC’s AKK River Niger Crossing completed in June 2025.

The company said the completed crossing is expected to unlock over 500 million standard cubic feet of incremental gas supply for the domestic market in the near term.
According to NNPC, the supply is intended for power generation, industrial use, and the West African market.
In addition, the Federal Government has set production targets of 3 million barrels of crude oil per day and 12 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day by 2030.
Ojulari acknowledged support from the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu and the NNPC Board led by Chairman Engr Ahmadu Musa Kida.
He also mentioned contributions from host communities, NGIC staff, and PCE Nig. Limited.
