Tinubu: Pay Taxes, Ground Rent to Fund More Abuja Roads

President Bola Tinubu has urged Federal Capital Territory (FCT) residents and business owners to meet their civic duties so the government can build more infrastructure across the capital.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday, Tinubu commissioned the completed Dape section of Arterial Road N5, Obafemi Awolowo Way, running from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III.

"To residents and business owners enjoying this transformation, I urge you to meet your obligations. Pay your taxes. Clear your land fees and ground rents. Your compliance gives the FCT Administration the strength to build more roads like this one," Tinubu said.

He described the new road as a "critical economic corridor" that will cut congestion, improve links across the city and attract investment.

The President recalled commissioning the Gwarinpa I section in June 2025, adding that finishing the Dape stretch kept his administration’s promise.

"We made a pledge. We promised not to leave this vital artery half-done. The Renewed Hope Agenda is about delivery from start to finish. Today, we are back to close the circle," he stated.

Tinubu said the project was conceived, funded and delivered under his government, awarded to Julius Berger Plc with a 15-month deadline after work began in October 2024.

"In the past, projects like this became permanent budget lines for ten, fifteen years. Not under this administration," he declared.

He praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike as the administration’s "Engine of Execution" and commended Julius Berger for timely delivery.

The N5 corridor, he added, will improve access between Dape, Karmo, Gwarinpa I, Kado, Idu and Mbora, while linking directly to Idu Industrial District to lower logistics costs and create jobs.

Tinubu also called on traditional rulers and residents to protect public assets and maintain drainage and streetlights.

Minister Wike said the commissioning kicked off 31 days of project inaugurations marking three years of the Tinubu government, up from 9 days in year one and 19 in year two.

He insisted compensation was paid for demolished properties, dismissing protests as unfair given the administration’s delivery record.

Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud described the road as another milestone under the Renewed Hope Agenda, praising Wike’s leadership and community cooperation.
