Teenage Soldier Among Two Americans Killed in Iranian Strike on Jordan Base

A 19-year-old American soldier is among two United States troops killed in Jordan over the weekend, amid the ongoing US war with Iran, the Pentagon has said.

The Department of Defense (DoD) identified the pair as Pvt Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, and First Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii.

Both died in an enemy attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base on Friday, 17 July, the department said in a news release.

Gonzales was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air Missile Defense Command, in Ansbach, Germany.

Feehan served with the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air Missile Defense Command, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation, according to reports.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth paid tribute to the pair on X, writing: "Godspeed, heroes. Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve."

In an update issued on Sunday, 19 July, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said unidentified remains had been discovered at the site of the attack, in addition to the two confirmed deaths.

Those remains, CENTCOM added, are currently being examined for identification.

CENTCOM had said the day before that four American soldiers were taken to hospitals in Jordan for treatment and have since been discharged.

A number of other personnel treated for minor injuries have already returned to duty.

Friday's attack brought the overall US military death toll in the Iran war to 17, according to reports.

That figure includes an unnamed service member killed in northern Iraq on Saturday.

CENTCOM confirmed the soldier died during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian drone.

In a further update, CENTCOM said it had completed its ninth consecutive night of strikes against Iran.

Targets included military command centres, air defence and coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch positions, and communications networks.
