Nigeria's Education Ministry Refutes Attack on Borno Girls' College

The Federal Ministry of Education has refuted reports alleging that Federal Government Girls' College (FGGC), Monguno, in Borno State, was attacked.

It described the claims as false, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among parents, guardians and the general public.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry confirmed that FGGC, Monguno remains safe and secure, with all students, staff and boarding facilities fully protected and accounted for. 

Academic, boarding and other school activities are said to be continuing uninterrupted in a peaceful environment.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, reaffirmed that the safety, security and welfare of learners in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority.

He explained that FGGC, Monguno operates under robust security arrangements designed to safeguard students, staff and school facilities.

The Minister further clarified that no student of FGGC, Monguno was involved in the incident being falsely linked to the school. 

He stressed that the affected individuals were remedial students studying outside the college, adding that the Borno State Government is taking the necessary steps to ensure their safety and welfare.

The Ministry has urged the media, bloggers and social media users to verify information through official sources before publication, and has advised the public to disregard the false report in its entirety.
